Environment

  • ExxonMobil is committed to environmental performance excellence and plans to restore production at the Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

  • All known environmental impacts related to crude transport and air emissions will be mitigated to the maximum extent feasible throughout the period of temporary trucking.

  • Installation of facility modifications within the Las Flores Canyon facility would include measures to ensure safety and environmental protection.

  • ExxonMobil will continue to work closely with Santa Barbara County and all appropriate agencies and regulators and the community to meet the highest standards for safety and environmental protection.

Economy

  • Restoration of production at Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) not only allows Santa Barbara County to restore property tax to past levels, but also brings back local jobs.

  • Oil and gas revenues from Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) help fund the Santa Ynez Valley school district, local emergency services, infrastructure and other public services.

  • ExxonMobil is one of the largest taxpayers in Santa Barbara County.

  • During the 10 years prior to the Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) shut in, ExxonMobil paid more than $45.1 million in taxes to the county.

  • Although SYU is taxed through an agreement with Santa Barbara County partly based on rate of crude oil production, and Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) has ceased production since the Plains All American Pipeline incident in 2015, ExxonMobil has continued to pay Santa Barbara County property taxes.
